Synopsis

One of the first possible manifestations of steganographic messages was when Demeratus wanted to communicate to the city of Sparta that Xerxes had plans to invade Greece. In order to avoid being captured for espionage at the checkpoints, he wrote the messages on tablets that were then covered with wax, so that they appeared to have been unaltered.
